A Metamorphosis : SMKBSD(2)’s Canteen Day
The Saturday morning sky was still surrounded by the veil of darkness. However, most of the students of SMKBSD (2) were already as busy as the bees making some last minute touch-up to their stalls and stuff like that. There is no denying that even the teachers are rushing here and there. There were even an expression of panic is some teachers and students.
As I walked into the school assembly area, the first thing I noticed was a looming object made of wood and tied together like something that you would see in a native-Indian documentary. I then realized it was some sort of game that requires players to try to throw off someone who is sitting on a plank of board into a big bucket of water. I headed down to the school hall where the Haunted House is going to be held. The sight of anxious and excited faces greeted me when I entered the Haunted House. Everyone (the committee members of Haunted House) was getting ready for the operation of the Haunted House in less than an hour.
After I’ve made sure that the counter area is ready, some of the members of the Haunted House project applied some black and white make-up on my face. I was metamorphose into a walking zombie in an instance. It was quite fun to do it actually although I tried to prevent the make-up from touching my face. When I got out of the Haunted House, the sun had already shined and a few people were lining up to wait for their turn to enter the Haunted House. Everyone couldn’t recognize me in the disguise of mine! Many of my classmates were surprised when they found out that it was me behind all those make-up. By this time, the school compound had already been filled up with people. I went back to the Haunted House and performed my duty. I had been left in-charge of the counter a.k.a ‘Dungeon Keeper’.
My shift ended at
11 am sharp. I went to have a look around after that. The teacher’s parking lots had been used as the place for the stalls. The games and activities that were held on that day were too numerous to mention. Painting your own T-shirt, throwing darts and jumble sale were among the many exciting stalls that were present. Besides that, there was also horse riding and paint ball stalls. However, these two stalls weren’t that popular as it was situated in an un-strategic area. The crowds were entertained with some music and live bands all throughout the day.
In the school’s canteen, all types of food and cuisine could be found. From Malay to Western food, the canteen was definitely a hit with all those who love to feast their appetites. There was also an A&W’s booth situated at the school’s basketball court where frothy root beers and hot delicious curly fries among others were served.
There was also a lucky draw going on where the grand prize was a 29 inch television. Among other prizes were cell phones, microwave oven, hampers and much more. The lucky draw prove to be an excellent gimmick as many outsiders were present on that day. I am sure that couldn’t be the only attraction as the activities and games held on that day was very exciting.
As the sky reveals a deep shade of orange, it was clear that the Canteen Day was drawing to an end. After the grand prize of the lucky draw had been given away, the day’s crowd began to leave the school’s compound. Happy faces and voices could be seen and heard as the crowd left the school’s compound. As for the students and teachers who remained, it was clear that their next mission was to clean up. Still, it was fun while it lasted.
The school had undergone a metamorphosis on that day. It is my hope that the school will hold a Canteen Day again next year. What’s next for SMK Bandar Sri Damansarians?
The school’s Sports Day. Let’s hit it SMK Bandar Sri Damansarians!!
